"The Madeirense"

When this cargo vessel reached the end of its life a few years ago, it was sunk off the Island of Porto Santo. Nobody could have imagined the incredibly diverse ecosystem that would result.

On a sea bed that is practically all smooth sand, this vessel is a popular diving destination. Not for the meek, however, as it is at a depth of 25 metres.
